The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear pleas relating to the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE)'s decision to conduct the re-examination for Class X Mathematics and Class XII Economics papers.
A plea was moved to Supreme Court challenging CBSE's decision to re-conduct the examinations followed by the suspicion of alleged question paper leak.
The petition said that there is no justification of re-conducting examinations unless there is evidence for widespread and systemic paper leaks.
Moreover, CBSE prepares multiple sets of question papers and they are being kept in the exclusive custody of the Controller of Examinations with utmost secrecy.
"That being the factual position, there is absolutely no justification whatsoever on the part of the CBSE in deciding to re-conduct the Mathematics examination of Class 10 on the mere likelihood of the exam having been compromise," the petition filed by a student reads.

"It is to be noted that this year, 16,38,428 students are appearing for the Class 10 and 11,86,306 students for Class 12 in the CBSE examinations. And therefore, to penalise the student community for an incident which is under investigation and without completion of that investigation/enquiry and issuing a notice on March 28, 2018 (for re-exams), affects the fundamental rights of students which is arbitrary, illegal and unconstitutional," the petition added.
The matter was brought before a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra amid growing protests by ferocious students across national capital.
Misra said, the matter will be heard on April 4.
While the Class XII economics re-exam will be held on 25 April, the date for Class 10 maths re-exam is expected to be announced soon.
However, the re-examinations will be held in Delhi and Haryana only, and that too only in July, according to Anil Swarup, secretary in the Union human resource development (HRD) ministry’s department of school education and literacy.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Monday also agreed to hear another plea, which seeks that the class X Maths exam be held in April, rather than July as proposed by the authorities. The court issued notice to CBSE, Delhi Police and HRD ministry on the PIL, seeking court monitored probe.

The plea was mentioned before a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar which agreed to hear it today Apart from that, the petition filed by advocate Ashok Agarwal has sought that liberal marks be awarded to the students in the Maths and Economics re-examination.
