Ministry of Rural Development has decided upon aims towards providing houses to around 1 crore people by year 2019. On November 20, Prime Minister will inaugurate Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana from Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
Construction of 33 lakh houses will be carried out in the current financial year. Centre is particularly focusing on UP because of the upcoming Assembly Elections.
Special design will be the focus keeping in mind the local needs, while constructing houses, says Rural development Minister. IIT Delhi and UNDP have designed the residences. Some of the designs from the total of 200, will be examined by the PM in Agra. Earthquake, cyclone and flood proof structures are designed for the houses. 18 states have been involved in the discussion on quality houses.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been upgraded. 25 meters will be the measurement of new homes. 1.20 lakh rupees will be allotted by the Centre for the construction of residences. While 1.30 lakh rupees will be invested for residence construction in the hilly areas.
And it is also reported that for 90 days labour, Rs 18000 will be given under the scheme of MNREGA while Rs 12000 will be given under the cover of Clean India scheme.
One lakh and fifty thousand will be the total amount that will be allotted for the construction of houses. Rs 70,000 is the amount decided for the loan that will be provided, after discussion with various banks. 81,000 crore will be the amount invested for the construction of 1 crore residences.
The move aims to provide shelter to all the needy by the year 2022. Social and economic census 2011 is the basis for selecting the beneficiaries. Preference has been given to people residing in temporary houses of one or two rooms.
