This is one effect of drunken driving unheard of before, well just maybe.
On Sunday, a 30-year-old businessman, supposedly drunk, had taken his injured friend to a hospital in Thousand Lights area of the city in his luxury car and on the way back home left it there and drove home an ambulance.Â
The man might have mistaken the ambulance for his Audi under the influence of alcohol suspect the police.
According to the police, the man after leaving his friend drove back a Maruti Omni which was used as an ambulance by the hospital as the driver of the ambulance had left the keys in the vehicle.Â
When he reached home in suburban Palavakkam, about 15 km away from the hospital, his family questioned him about his car and why he drove an ambulance.Â
The businessman realised his mistake and immediately asked his driver to take the ambulance back.Â
Meanwhile, hospital personnel found that an ambulance was missing and alerted the police following which a patrol team arrived at the hospital and around the same time, the businessman's driver drove in with the missing ambulance.Â
The driver apologised to the hospital authorities and police on behalf of his owner and explained that the incident was a case of ‘mistaken identity’ before driving away with the Audi.Â
Unsure if the businessman was drunk, the hospital decided not to lodge a police complaint.Â
