A 70-year-old man was killed on Monday after a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by CPI-Maoists went off in Kansaram village of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, around 500 kilometers from the state capital. Sukma superintendent of police Abhishek Meena said, “The IED was planted in a field.†He added, “As per preliminary investigation, the man inadvertently stepped on the pressure IED while passing through the field on the outskirts of the village. He died at the incident site.†The deceased has been identified as Karko Kanna. According to Chhattisgarh police, another villager was killed in an IED explosion in the village outskirt. The Maoists plants pressure bombs and wire or remote control IEDs in fields to target security forces on combing operations.
