A CRPF jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police said on Wednesday.

Constable Roshan Ekka (28), belonging to 219th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), ended his life by shooting himself with his service rifle on Tuesday at their camp in Bhejji area, a police official told PTI.

When Ekka's colleagues heard the gunshot from the barrack, they rushed to the place and found him lying in a pool of blood.

The constable was immediately rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead, he said. The body was sent to his native place at Ranchi in Jharkhand after postmortem, he said.

Ekka had returned from leave just two days back. The exact reason which prompted him to take the extreme step was yet to be ascertained, the official said. A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding that further probe is on.
