Sukma is one of the worst Maoist-hit districts of Chhattisgarh and the attacks on security personnel are not unusual. Although it was not yet clear whether the blast was carreid out by Maoists but they remained the primary suspect.

Earlier last month, four BSF jawans were killed in an encounter with Maoists in the state's Kanker district. On March 28, the security personnel had killed four suspected Maoists in another encounter in Sukma district.
