Chhattisgarh Police arrested three women cadres of CPI-Maoist from forested area of Bijapur after a brief encounter on Tuesday. Security forces have recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

Police said, a combing operation was launched by District Reserve Guard (DRG) to prevent Maoists from observing PLGA Week in Naxal bastions of the district.

A senior officer said, “On Monday night a combing operation was launched in forested area near Dharna village to prevent Maoists from observing PLGA Week.”

He added, “We had intelligence inputs that senior Maoist leaders had gathered at the forested area in the outskirts of Dharna village to observe PLGA Week.”

Another senior police officer said, “As our team were returning to base camp, a Maoist troop opened fire at the forces. Our forces retaliated.”

He added, “Several Maoists managed to escape but three female cadres of the banned outfit were nabbed by us.”

The three arrested have been identified as Daso Oyam, Sunita Oyam and Kumari Oyram. All the arrested Maoist cadres are in their twenties.

Security forces have recovered a muzzle loading gun, detonators, tiffin bomb and collection of Maoist literature from the possession of the arrested Maoist cadres.
