Four pilgrims were today injured when the ropeway trolley they were travelling crashed while making a landing at the base of the hill where goddess Bamleshwari temple is located in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district.
At least 21 people who were stuck midway in seven other cable cars following the mishap have been rescued, they said.
“The incident occurred when the cable car was descending to the ground from the hilltop,” Dongargarh Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Ajit Yadav said.
As per preliminary investigation, the cable wire suddenly came off the pulley when four trolleys were landing at the base of the hill.
The trolley which was in the front hurtled down injuring its four travellers, including two women, the SDOP said.
Soon after the incident, the other three cable cars which were coming down and four trolleys which were ascending to the hilltop were stopped midway, he said.
“After getting information about the incident, Indo Tibetan Border Police and local police were pressed into service to rescue the 21 persons trapped in seven trolleys,” he said.
The officer said the injured persons were admitted to a local hospital where their condition is stated to be normal.
A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding further probe was on.
