A ward councillor has suffered critical injuries after a pressure bomb planted by CPI-Maoists exploded at Chattisgarh’s Sukma on Sunday.

The injured has been identified as B Ashok Kumar.

Chhattisgarh police said the blast occurred at Elarmadgu village under Bhejji police station limits.

Sukma superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Meena said the the blast triggered after Kumar inadvertently touched the improvised explosive device (IED) hidden in bushes.

He added that incident occurred when he was heading towards the anganwadi centre to pick his mother.

Kumar was shifted to Bhadrachalm in Telangana for better treatment by the police, added the SP.

Meena further said, Maoists in the area have planted several pressure bombs to target the security forces engaged in anti-insurgency operation.

He added that several villagers have fallen victims of the IEDs planted by the Naxals.
