The BJP general secretary Kailash Vijaywargiya, who the main accused in the West Bengal child trafficking scandal had claimed to have known, got a support from an unlikely quarter when a local Congress MLA termed the "allegation" against the saffron leader "baseless".
"I consider the allegation of child trafficking levelled against Vijaywargiya totally false and baseless. No one has the right of character assassination in political rivalry," tweeted Jitu Patwari, who represents Rau constituency.
Taking note of the support, Vijaywargiya has thanked Patwari. "Truth finally prevails. You raised your voice against baseless allegation and I feel good over it," he tweeted.
Chandana, the main accused in the trafficking case, had alleged that she had been introduced to BJP leaders Vijayvargiya and Roopa Ganguly through West Bengal BJP's women's wing leader Juhi Chowdhury, who has since been removed from all party posts.
The BJP has dismissed the allegations as the "political conspiracy by the TMC".
Vijayvargiya had said, "the CID in West Bengal has turned into the conspiracy invention department of TMC. Let there be an investigation by a central investigating agency. Truth will come out."
Ganguly too had refuted the allegations against her.
