Chirag Paswan was elected the new president of Lok Janshakti Party as party founder and Union minister and Ram Vilas Paswan passed the baton of leadership to his son. The decision was made at the LJP national executive meeting on Tuesday. Chirag was elected as the party leader unanimously. His name was proposed by MP Pashupati Kumar Paras. After the meeting, Ram Vilas Paswan said that he was unable to give full time to party and he has now handed over the leadership to the next generation.
Chirag Paswan said that for him, father Ram Vilas will always remain the leader and the president. He expressed hope that LJP will keep growing.
LJP, which primarily draws its support from a section of Dalits in Bihar, was founded by Ram Vilas Paswan, in 2000 and the wily leader has steered it through changing political scenarios by joining hands with parties with contrasting ideologies and support groups.
