After a night of chaos in the national capital, Delhi police have released as many as 50 Jamia Millia Islamia University students, who were detained during protests against the amended Citizenship Act, that grants Indian citizenship to illegal non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The protests turned violent after Delhi police personnel fired tear gas shells inside Jamia campus to force their way in and allegedly dragged students out of the library and the mosque, and assaulted them. As many as 100 people, including protesters and some policemen, were injured in clashes and over 50 vehicles, including DTC buses, were set on fire in Mathura Road, New Friends Colony, Jamia Nagar and Sarai Julena. The crackdown on students had its repercussions and the protests spread to other central universities across the country. The police also launched a crackdown against stundets of Aligarh From Kolkata’s Jadavpur University to Hyderabad’s Maulana Azad National Urdu University, students have begun their agitation against the authorities.

8:30 pm: Gyan Prakash Tripathi, DM Mau: Few people who had gathered at Hajipura to hold protest over yesterday's Jamia Millia Islamia incident, have been disbursed. Few motorbikes were torched by them. The situation is peaceful now. Section 144 has been imposed in Hajipura Chowk area.

8:15 pm: Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Jharkhand's Poreyahat: I appeal to students to understand #CitizenshipAmendmentAct. There is no provision in CAA that takes away anyone's citizenship. Congress, AAP & TMC are misleading you & creating an atmosphere of violence across the country.

8:00 pm: Top Delhi Police Source on media report of bullet injuries on protesters: Categorically deny that protesters were fired upon, injuries which some media outlets are reporting could be sharp end of tear gas shells hitting directly. We are investigating nature of allegations again.

7:40 pm: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC): Entry & exit gates at all stations have been opened. Normal services have resumed in all stations.

7:30 pm: Citizenship Amendment Act: Internet services suspended in Aligarh (city) till tomorrow midnight.

7:00 pm: CPI(M) General secretary Sitaram Yechury: CPI(M) is filing a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Citizenship Amendment Act. It will be done maybe today. It's all ready.

#02:59 pm: “Around 30 police personnel received injuries, 2 SHO suffered fractures, one of our personnel is in ICU. 2 FIRs have been registered for rioting and arson. Crime Branch will investigate the matter from all angles,” Randhawa said.

#11:30 am: Protests At Lucknow's Nadwa College: Students at Lucknow's Nadwa College clashed with police on Monday morning. The students closed the gate of college and didn't allow the police to enter. The police is seen throwing back stones inside the campus. The students were protesting in solidarity with Delhi's Jamia University, where police on Sunday night launched a crackdown and allegedly assaulted students.

#10:40 am: Senior advocate Indira Jaising mentioned Jamia Millia Islamia&Aligarh Muslim University incidents before a bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde. Jaising asks SC to take suo motu cognizance of the issue saying'It's a very serious human rights violation all over the country.'

#10:35 am: A petition was mentioned in Delhi High Court seeking intervention in Jamia incident through judicial inquiry by this Court. Petition said the 52 detained and injured students should be given proper medical attention and compensation. The court refused to give an urgent hearing and asked the petitioner to approach the Court through registry.

#10:02 am: UP Police To Evacuate AMU Campus: UP Director General of Police OP Singh told NDTV that police will evacuate AMU campus and send students home. He also denied allegations that police resorted to vandalism during last night's crackdown.

#09:20 am: Protests Against Amended Citizenship Act Continue In Bengal: Protests over the amended Citizenship Act continued in Bengal for the fourth consecutive day on Monday, with incidents of road and rail blockades reported from various parts of the state, officials said. In East Midnapore and Murshidabad districts, the agitators blocked thoroughfares since morning, inconveniencing hundreds of commuters, they said.
