Close shave for 196 passengers bound to Addis Ababa at Delhi’s IGI airport as wings of Ethiopian Airlines clips wings with Air India

A major untoward incident was averted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport after wings of Ethiopian Airlines plane collided with Air India on Wednesday early hours.

According to airport officials the incident occurred on Tuesday night when the Ethiopian Airlines plane was being pushed back for a take-off and Air India's Airbus A320 was parked.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is probing the incident.

Air India official not authorised to talk to the media said that the wings of the two planes collided with each other.

The official added that the Air India plane has been grounded temporarily.

The official added that the ET plane was was being pushed back by tractor at bay No. 87 and the Air India flight was parked at Bay No 86.

The Ethiopian Airlines apologised to its passengers and said, “We flew with an substitute aircraft to continue with flight service.”

The Ethiopian flight ET 687 was bound to Addis Ababa and was scheduled to depart at 2.20am Wednesday.
