Taking a jibe at the Congress party after Mayawati’s decision to go solo in the upcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday said that “coalition was not in the DNA” of the Grand Old Party.

“What relations Congress has with others is their matter but all I can is say that coalition is not in the DNA of Congress. The only thing in their DNA is family,” Prasad said while addressing a press conference in Delhi.

The reaction from the BJP leader came hours after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati accused the Congress party of being “arrogant” and denied any coalition with it for the upcoming state Assembly elections.

“They (Congress) are getting arrogant and are under the misconception that they can defeat BJP on their own but the ground reality is that people haven't forgiven Congress party for their mistakes and corruption,” the BSP chief said.

Mayawati said, while Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi’s intention for the alliance were "honest", some leaders like Digvijaya Singh were “sabotaging” this.

“I feel that Sonia Gandhi & Rahul Gandhi's intentions for Congress-BSP alliance are honest. However, some Congress leaders like Digvijaya Singh do not wish for a Congress-BSP alliance, she said, adding that they were afraid of agencies like ED, CBI.
