The Union Home Ministry on Saturday termed as ‘completely fabricated’ the reports about a protest involving 10,000 people in Kashmir Valley and clarified that there had been just a few stray protests involving a crowd of not more than 20 people.

“There have been a few stray protests in Srinagar/Baramulla and none of these involved a crowd of more than 20 people," a ministry spokesperson said.

Modi government has scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir with a legislature, and Ladakh without a legislature.

Earlier, Reuters reported that police used tear gas and pellets to fight back at least 10,000 people protesting Delhi's withdrawal of special rights for Jammu and Kashmir in its main city of Srinagar on Friday.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir administration has relaxed eased prohibitory orders to allow people to make arrangements for Monday's Eid celebrations.

Earlier, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, who has been camping in the Valley since Tuesday, talked to locals and security personnel during a quick tour of the sensitive downtown area here on Friday, officials said.

The NSA, accompanied by his aides and senior police officers, visited the Eidgah locality and stopped at various places to interact with locals.

He later talked to police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and thanked them for their wonderful work in maintaining law and order.

The NSA has instructed the security forces deployed in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure that the common people are not harassed in any manner during the tight restrictions imposed in the wake of abrogation of the constitutional provisions that accorded special status to the state, the officials said.

Doval went to Shopian in south Kashmir on Wednesday and talked to the locals.
