New Delhi:
Congress on Monday congratulated Akhilesh Yadav after Election Commission decided to give cycle poll symbol to UP CM-led faction of Samajwadi Party.
Hailing the decision as judicious, Congress spokesman R P N Singh said, “We congratulate Akhilesh on being allotted the cycle symbol. Election Commission has taken a judicious decision in record time.”
Both Congress and Akhilesh-led faction are busy stitching up a grand secular alliance in the state in an apparent bid to prevent BJP from coming to power in the politically key state.
Citing past precedents, Election Symbol Order of 1968 and provisions of the Representation of the People Act, including Section 29A, the Akhilesh camp had argued that since the numbers are stacked in favour of the CM, the symbol should go to him.
