Congress expels Barkha Singh for six years for anti-party activities

Congress party on Friday expelled Barkha Shukla Singh for six years in anti-party activities. Singh had resigned on Thursday from the post of Delhi Congress women’s wing president. She had alleged that congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi does not wish to listen to anyone in the party.

She also issued a press statement on Twitter and questioned the Congress vice-president, stating that Why the latter is hiding.

The disciplinary committee of Congress' Delhi unit removed her for indulging in "anti-party activities" days ahead of the municipal polls, where the party is hoping for as revival of fortunes after the 2015 assembly poll debacle.

Singh had alleged in her statement, that Rahul Gandhi , including Ajay Maken, did not pay any heed to their complaints when they had visited to Rahul Gandhi’s  residence, they were told to leave the venue.

Singh also alleged that senior leader Ajay Maken had misbehaved with her.

Singh, who had vowed on Thursday not to quit the party, hit out at Rahul, saying the decision "proved" his "mental bankruptcy" and added that she will take legal recourse against it.

"The Congress is not the Gandhi family's property," Singh said, claiming she had no plans to join the BJP or any other party at this point. The four-member disciplinary committee comprised of former Delhi minister Narender Nath, former Mahila Congress chief Abha Chaudhary, and party leaders Mahmood Zia andSurender Kumar.
