Publicity can be a two-edged sword and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah learned this lesson hard way during the flag hoisting ceremony at BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday. State-run national broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) was showing live telecast of the flag hoisting ceremony at the BJP headquarters on the occasion of Independence Day. As soon as Amit Shah pulled the string to unfurl the national flag, it fell down to the ground, giving enough ammo to the Opposition Congress to mock the BJP president.
Taking a swipe at Shah, the Congress party shared the video of the “disaster” Shah made during the 72nd Independence Day celebrations at his party headquarters.
“Those who cannot handle the flag, how will they handle the country?” the Congress wrote in its tweet.

“If those people who have treated the flag with contempt for over 50 years had not done so, the flag would not have been insulted like it was today,” the party added in the tweet.

The Congress was in no mood to miss the chance to take a dig at the BJP president and said that those who give “certificates of patriotism” to others, don’t know the etiquettes of the national anthem.
This was not the first time Amit Shah has made a major gaffe. Earlier this year, Amit Shah had termed his own party’s Chief Ministerial candidate in Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa, who was also sitting by his side, the most corrupt CM during a press conference.
“A retired Supreme Court judge recently said that if we hold a competition for the most corrupt government in the country, then Yeddyurappa government shall be given the No. 1 award,” Shah had said. Read Full Story Here
