Congress MP Sushmita Dev on Wednesday tried to create chaos in the Lok Sabha by entering the Well and alleging that following the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft, some Bengalis were beaten up at Assam-Meghalaya border and sought their safety.
Dev came to the Well and alleged that BJP chief Amit Shah and Home Minister Rajnath Singh have failed to assure the security of people and were only giving lectures.
“Bengalis are being beaten up along Assam-Meghalaya border. We want security to 40 lakh people who were excluded from the NRC. What is the government doing? People are scared. Who will give them security,” she asked.

Dev, a Member of Parliament from Assam’s Silchar, alleged that the NRC was made without any proper inspection and termed the government as ‘irresponsible’.
“You people are irresponsible. This is not fair. Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah are giving only lectures, but doing nothing,” she claimed.
However, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan did not pay much attention to Dev’s plea and asked to go back to her seat.
“Every day, you cannot do this. Go to your seat,” she said.
Following a protest for a few minutes, Dev returned to her seat and the proceedings continued in the lower house.
However, Dev raised the issue again during the Zero Hour and asked the Centre to give proper security to people crossing the Meghalaya-Assam border.
