The Congress on Monday appointed Sharmishtha Mukherjee and Anshul Meira Kumar as party’s national spokespersons. Sharmishtha is daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee while Anshul is son of ex-Lok sabha speaker Meira Kumar and grandson of former deputy prime minister Jagjivan Ram.

Sharmistha took to Twitter to express her gratitude to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party's Communication Department in-charge Randeep Surjewala.

Earlier, Mukherjee was the spokesperson of Delhi Congress and had quit after Sheila Dixit decided to revamp the state unit.
After the Lok Sabha elections, many Congress spokesperson resigned citing bad performance of the party in the polls. The appointments have come amid the Grand Old Party facing leadership crisis. Recently, Sonia Gandhi was appointed as interim president of the Congress after Rahul Gandhi refused pleas by party men to take back his resignation.
