Congress removes Digvijaya Singh as in-charge of Goa, Karnataka

Congress on Saturday removed Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh as in-charge of Goa and Karnataka.

The move comes in the wake of Goa fiasco where the party has maximum legislators in the assembly but failed to make the government in state and BJP managed the small parties in its favour and Manohar Parrikar took over the reign of the state.

The grand old party has appointed A Chella Kumar as the new in-charge of Goa while KC Venugopal will take charge as in-charge of the Karnataka. Amit Deshmukh has been made party secretary of Karnataka.

It is said that the step has been taken in wake of Karnataka assembly polls which will be held in 2018.

Digvijaya Singh had said “not having a pre-poll alliance with the Goa Forward Party” was a “mistake”. “Our mistake was not to go for a pre-poll alliance with the Goa Forward headed by Vijay Sardesai which was seen to be anti Parrikar and BJP (sic),” the Congress general secretary said in a series of tweets.

Singh, whose tweets were apparently in reaction to media reports that political developments in Goa indicate that “India is becoming Congress-mukt (Congress-free)”, for the first time had said not having a pre-poll alliance with the Goa Forward Party was a “mistake”.
