Congress runs signatory campaign to move impeachment motion against CJI Dipak Misra

The Congress is initiating impeachment proceeding against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, said National Congress Party leader Majeed Memon on Tuesday.

“Congress is leading the impeachment proceedings. I am just a signatory,” Memon told Times Now in an interview.

The NCP leader denied revealing anything further regarding the political parties and leaders supporting the Congress’ impeachment proceeding against Misra.

According to several media reports, the Trinamool Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have extended support for the impeachment.

Senior leaders of the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) last week held talks on the issue, maintaining  that the CJI failed to address the key issues raised by the four senior most judges concerning functioning of the Supreme Court in January.

A senior leader, who was a part of the meeting, said that they will be deliberating over bringing an impeachment motion in the ongoing Rajya Sabha session with mandatory signatures of a minimum 50 members of Parliament.
