The opposition parties on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Prime minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government during ‘BJP Bhagao Desh Bachao’ rally held in Patna.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took shots at PM Modi over demonetisation and accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of betraying people’s mandate.
Interestingly, Mamata Banerjee compared ‘notebandi’ with the infamous ‘nasbandi’ episode of the Emergency era which took the Congress unawares.
Mamata said, “When the Congress government under Indira Gandhi could not survive the nasbandi chapter then how can Modi survive after notebandi. Modi government too will suffer the same fate.” Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was present when Mamata made this statement.
Mamata took a dig at Nitish with a piece of poetry. She said ‘Maal maharaj ke, Mirza khele Holi’ (The undeserving enjoys the efforts of someone else) adding that Nitish Kumar is undeservingly enjoying the fruits of the mandate that the people of Bihar had given to Laloo Yadav.
She said, “The people of Bihar will bring back Laloo Yadav in the next elections.” She accused PM Modi of partisan approach between states as she raked up the issue of the observations made by Punjab and Haryana High Court which admonished the Modi government in very strong words. Following the violence that erupted in Panchkula, the court had said that Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of India, not of BJP.
This was followed by the argument of the lawyer of the Central government that law and order are the responsibility of the state government to which the Punjab and Haryana High Court replied in very strong and caustic words.
Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati did not take part in the rally.
