New Delhi:

Congress workers on Saturday protested at several parts of the country against attack on party Vice President Rahul Gandhi's convoy in Gujarat on Friday. In Delhi, party workers protested outside the BJP headquarters. In Mumbai, several workers were taken into custody following protests. Besides Delhi and Mumbai, workers also protested in Chandigarh and Gujarat.

Following protests and arrests, Rahul Gandhi said “Respect the sentiments of Congress workers in Gujarat protesting against admin not filing an FIR against the stone pelting.”

“But I urge them to divert their energy in helping the people affected by floods in the state,” he further added.

Earlier on Friday, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's car was pelted with stones during his visit to this flood-affected town but he escaped unhurt.

Reacting to the attack, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi asked, “Are we reaching a space in our democracy where political opponents are not going to be allowed to practice democratic politics?”

“It is a pre-planned conspiracy. It is a murderous attack by BJP, RSS,” senior Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad said.

BJP playing down the attack on Rahul Gandhi termed his visit to flood-hit areas in Gujarat a “Photo opportunity.”
