The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday witnessed ruckus when senior Congress leader and MP Anand Sharma raised President Ram Nath Kovind’s speech, asking "why Mahatma Gandhi was compared with Deen Dayal Upadhyaya."
The leaders of treasury benches opposed Sharma’s statement which led to adjournment of the Upper House.
While replying to Sharma's statement, Jaitley said,"The leader's question was absurd."
On Tuesday, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had said the newly-elected President Ram Nath Kovind had insulted freedom fighters of the country by not naming in his speech.
Azad had asserted that it was unfortunate that there was no mention of former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. He said the "President should rise above the party politics."
