Coronavirus Live Updates: The lockdown imposed by the Narendra Modi government has come into force. The 21-day 'tough' curfew has made the 1.3 billion Indians practice social distancing. As the number of cases continues to rise, the government is looking to curb the viral spread with the help of the lockdown. For the first time in the history of independent India, services such as railways, airlines and road transport have come to a screeching halt. Except for essential services, no commercial activity is allowed across India. Visuals from various cities showed grocery stores implementing social distancing with the help of boxes made on the ground with chalk powder. Authorities have told the local law enforcers to make sure that no citizen ventures out without a valid reason. Despite the directions by the home ministry, several e-commerce websites have either curtailed or suspended their services. The government has repeatedly assured the people that there is no shortage of essential items and no one should indulge in panic buying.
