Coronavirus Live Updates: States across India have announced slew of measure to impost partial shutdown to combat the spread of COVID-19 disease. In a late-night development, Rajasthan joined the long list of states to issue partial shutdown of non-essential activities.  While India has quarantined itself, the United States has announced national emergency to deal with the pandemic. Situation in Italy remains grim with over 1,200 deaths reported so far. Italy is also pressing murder charges against those found indulging in careless, risky behaviour. Conditions in China are reportedly better with fewer deaths and active cases. With almost all big-ticket events getting cancelled around the globe, the coronavirus pandemic has become the single most crucial factor to affect the economy and healthcare systems. India suspends land border crossing points with Pakistan indefinitely from March 16 midnight: MHA.

The IIT Kharagpur and the IIEST, Shibpur, have suspended academic activities as a precautionary measure in view of the novel coronavirus threat till March 31. IIT-KGP director VK Tewari said students and residents staying in the campus have been advised not to travel outside it, while students living outside the campus have been asked to stay at home.

Denmark will close its borders to foreigners from Saturday midday, (1100 GMT) in a bid to slow the advance of coronavirus, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said. "All tourists and foreigners who cannot prove that they have a valid reason to come to Denmark will not be allowed to enter," but Danes would be allow in, he told journalists. 

Chinese billionaire businessman Jack Ma has offered the United States 500,000 coronavirus test kits and a million masks, as the country faces a shortage of kits for diagnosing the potentially deadly disease. In a statement on Twitter, the founder of e-commerce giant Alibaba said, "drawing from my own country's experience, speedy and accurate testing and adequate protective equipment for medical professionals are most effective in preventing the spread of the virus." 

The Supreme Court has decided to limit its functioning due to the novel coronavirus pandemic and hold hearing of only six out of 15 benches on Monday.

Costa has said that it was suspending all of its cruises around the world until April 3 over the coronavirus outbreak as governments step up measures to contain the outbreak.

Switzerland will close its schools in a bid to halt the spread of the new coronavirus, the government said Friday, adding that it would provide billions in aid to hard-hit businesses. "The situation is difficult, but we have the means to overcome the challenges on the medical and the financial level," Swiss President Simonetta Sommaruga told reporters.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris will be closed to the public until further notice because of the coronavirus, management said, as France's cases climbed to over 2,800, with 61 deaths. "Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the operating company of the Eiffel Tower is announcing the closure of the tower this evening at 9:00 pm  (2000 GMT)," the company said Friday. It added that it hoped "to be able to reopen very soon when conditions allow it". 

Romania's interim prime minister was on Friday asked to form a new government from coronavirus self-isolation. President Klaus Iohannis chose Ludovic Orban, head of the National Liberal Party (PNL), to form a new government after Finance Minister Florin Citu declined the nomination at the last minute on Thursday.

Poland has said that it was shutting its borders to foreign travellers to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has infected at least 68 people.

Ukraine has said that it would close its borders to foreigners for at least two weeks and stop all flights to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, as it reported its first COVID-19 fatality.

US President Donald Trump announced Friday that internet giant Alphabet is creating a website where people will be able to check whether they have  symptoms of the novel coronavirus. Verily Life Sciences, once a project in a Google X lab devoted to "moonshot" projects and now its own health business unit, is testing a "tool to help triage individuals for COVID-19 testing," Google confirmed on Twitter.
