Coronavirus Highlights March 28: COVID-19 Cases In India Climb To 918; Italy Sees Almost 1000 Deaths In One Day

The number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 873 in India on Saturday with the death toll rising to 20. One person died in a Kochi hospital in first death from Kerala state on Saturday. According to the Union Health Ministry, the number of active novel coronavirus cases in the country stood at 775, while 78 people were either cured or discharged and one had migrated.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic claimed 969 lives, a new single-day record high in fatalities, in Italy on Friday. The total number of coronavirus cases in Italy reached 86,498 on Friday, exceeding the total figure registered in China. The United States now has more than 100,000 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, a tracker maintained by Johns Hopkins University showed Friday.
