Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chaired the joint meeting of Empowered Groups constituted for planning and ensuring the implementation of nation’s response to the coronavirus outbreak. In the meeting, PM Modi reviewed the countrywide preparedness, including the availability of hospitals, proper isolation and quarantine facilities, in order to cope up with the coronavirus pandemic. In the wake of rising demands of medical kits and personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves and ventilators, the prime minister also directed the concerned officials of the Empowered Groups to ensure sufficient supply and production of the same, the PMO said.
PM Modi is slated to hold a meeting of Council of Ministers via video conferencing on April 6 to review the situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier on Thursday, PM Modi held a meeting with chief ministers via video conferencing over coronavirus pandemic. Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan was also present in the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Moreover, in view of surging coronavirus cases in the country, the central government has decided to put immediate curbs on the exports of the diagnostic kits from the country. The Centre has already banned the export of surgical masks and gloves and restricted the export of dozens of drugs including paracetamol and various antibiotics. This has come at a time when the nation stares at a shortage of masks and gloves.
According to latest reports, the number of coronavirus cases in India has crossed the 2,900 mark with more than 60 deaths reported so far. Meanwhile, the government has appealed to the the public to wear 'homemade face covers' especially and avoid any unnecessary movement.
