A woman in Kozhikode in Kerala was forced an abortion after allegedly kicked in the stomach by CPM leader. The six people were arrested for assaulting Josna Sibi, 28, at a village in the district on January 28, they said.

According to media reports, the woman was seven months pregnant and her husband were attacked by the CPM activists in connection with a land dispute on January 28.

A profusely bleeding Sibi was rushed to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital where she had to undergo an abortion, they added.  A complaint was lodged by her in this connection on February 2.

While one person was arrested on February 8, the others were apprehended on Thursday following an investigation.  The accused were arrested on charges of unlawful assembly, rioting, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal trespass and wrongful restraint.

The main accused is still absconding. The victim's family has held protests outside a police station to pressurize the cops to arrest the main culprit.

"The local party workers are coming here daily, asking me to withdraw the complaint against Thamby," woman's husband said referring to the CPM leader. "My decision is to fight the case till the end. I have decided to sit in front of the police station demanding justice," he was quoted as saying by Times Now.
