New Delhi:

Following the Centre’s decision to revoke the unilateral Ramzan ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir, the cracks have once again started showing in the BJP-PDP alliance government in the state.

BJP chief Amit Shah, who is scheduled to visit Srinagar on June 23, has called an urgent meeting of state BJP leaders and ministers, including state party president Ravinder Raina and party general secretary (organisation) Ashok Kaul on Tuesday.

“All the BJP ministers have been called to New Delhi for a meeting,” a senior leader of Jammu and Kashmir BJP told PTI without elaborating the agenda of the meeting.

According to reports, Mehbooba Mufti's People’s Democratic Party (PDP) wants the Centre to reach out to the separatists. However, the Centre said that the separatists lost an opportunity when it decided unilateral ceasefire during the holy month of Ramzan.

The data on violence and killings during the month Ramzan shows that such incidents increased two-fold, therefore, the Centre’s peace initiative failed.

Announcing the resumption of anti-terror operations in the Valley, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that while security forces displayed “exemplary restraint” during the Ramzan ceasefire, the terrorists continued to attack civilians and security forces.

“It was expected that everyone will cooperate in ensuring the success of this initiative. While the Security Forces have displayed exemplary restraint during this period, the terrorists have continued with their attacks, on civilians and SFs, resulting in deaths and injuries,” Singh had said.
