At least 12 people were killed and several injured after a two-storey building collapsed following a cylinder blast at a home in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district on Monday. According to reports, several people are still feared trapped inside the debris of the building. "At least 10 feared dead in blast at a house in UP's Mau district," Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Awasthi was earlier quoted as saying by PTI.

The cause of the blast, in which at least 15 people were injured, is yet to be ascertained. However, police said that the prima facie it appeared blast was caused because of gas leakage. Locals present at the site are trying to rescue trapped persons. Initially, some reports claimed that seven people lost their lives in the incident.

According to Police, the incident took place around 7:30 am when the women at the house in Mohammmadabad were cooking breakfast. Locals said they heard a loud explosion after which flames erupted from the building. All the injured have been rushed to the district hospital.

"UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of blast in a house in Walidpur in Mau, where 10 persons have died. He has expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and directed that DM and SP and all officers to immediately provide all possible relief and medical help to the injured persons," he said.
