With heavy rains lashing parts of the national capital, the Parliament Monsoon Session 2018 resumed on Monday and adjourned amid uproar by the Opposition on National Register of Citizens in Assam.

While the controversial bill seeking to amend the six-decade-old Citizenship Act has been shifted to the Winter Session, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tabled another crucial bill to further amend The Indian Penal Code, Indian Evidence Act, 1872, The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.

During the Day-eight proceedings of the ongoing Monsoon Session, Parliament also considered the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act. Other key bills include State Banks (Repeal and Amendment) Bill, 2017, The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Bill, 2018.

Another bill seeking to replace the existing Central Council of Homoeopathy with a board of governors and aimed at bringing accountability and quality in homoeopathy education system has been moved in the Lok Sabha for consideration and passage.

Here are the Highlights on the Monsoon Session of Parliament:

# 14:28 pm: Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day after uproar by the opposition on National Register of Citizens in Assam.

# 13:21 pm: I want to ask the Opposition, what is the Centre's role in this? It is happening under the supervision of the Supreme Court. Such sensitive issues should not be politicised: Rajnath Singh in Lok Sabha on NRC Assam.

# 11:19 am: Rajya Sabha adjourned till 12:00 noon after uproar by TMC MPs over the National Register of Citizens (NRC Assam).

# 11:00 am: TDP MPs continue their protest in Parliament demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh.

# 10:39 am: TMC MP Sougata Roy has given an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha over the NRC Assam list draft which was released on Monday.

On Thursday, during its day 7 proceedings, the lower house passed the Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018.

The new bill calls for punishment ranging from 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine not less than Rs 1 lakh. Besides prevention, rescue and rehabilitation, it covers aggravated forms of trafficking such as forced labour, begging and marriage.
