The traffic jams in Delhi owing to the Kanwariya yatra delayed the House proceeding of the Delhi Assembly by around 20 minutes on Wednesday. Speaker Ram Niwas Goel was stuck in intractable traffic jams in the city. The Kanwariyas have lined up the city with their zeal and enthusiasm for the festival.
Goel was commuting to the Delhi Assembly from his Shahdara constituency to attend the House proceedings that were scheduled to begin at 2 pm, but it started at 2.20 pm. In the House, he said that the reason behind him being late was the traffic jam.

Sources suggest that Goel’s vehicle was stuck in traffic jams in Shashtri Park, Seelam Pur, and other places.
Police have stated that there were traffic jams due to movement of Kanwariyas.
"Traffic will remain heavy until Thursday. Over 350 traffic personnel have been deployed to avoid congestion caused due to Kanwariyas.
"We have segregated the road for them as a precautionary measure to avoid congestion," a senior police official said.

Few minutes after reaching the Delhi Assembly, Goel adjourned House proceedings for the day as a mark of respect to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi whose demise took place on Tuesday.
There were many complaints in March when the legislators raised their concern about the worsening traffic situation and have caused many MLAs and the speaker to arrive late at the Assembly due to traffic jams.
