Delhi Bawana bypolls: Major win for AAP, BJP’s humiliating defeat; Manoj Tiwari takes responsibility

It is a major win for Aam Aadmi Party after party candidate Ram Chandra recorded thumping victory in Bawana by-election on Monday.  Ram Chandra defeated BJP’s Ved Prakash by a margin of 24052 votes. Ram Chandra got 59,886 votes while BJP’s Ved Prakash secured 35,834 votes. Congress party Surender got 31,919 votes.

Delhi BJP party president Manoj Tiwari took responsibility of defeat. The party had fielded Ved Prakash who had switched his loyalty to BJP after resigning as AAP MLA.

Deputy chief minister and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia offered his gratitude to voters and congratulated party workers for registering a splendid victory.

Keeping party’s hope alive in 2020 Delhi assembly polls, Ram Chandra’s victory comes short in the arm for the party after witnessing an embarrassing loss in Rajouri Garden by-polls in April this year where BJP had wrested the seat from AAP. The AAP candidate had forfeited his deposit. BJP’s Manjinder Singh Sirsa had won the assembly seat.

The party also faced a debacle in Delhi civic body polls after which political pundits started raising the question of party’s existence.

The victory will certainly resurrect the party after it lost in the assembly polls in Goa and did not get enough seat to clinch power in Punjab. The party emerged as the main opposition party in the state.
