Delhi court sentences life term to ‘India’s Most Wanted’ show host TV Suhaib Ilyasi for murdering wife

Former TV producer and host of India’s first crime show ‘India’s Most Wanted’, Suhaib Ilyasi, who murdered his wife Anju in 2000, was on Wednesday found guilty and was sentenced to life term by a Delhi sessions court.

Additional sessions judge Sanjeev Kumar Malhotra found him guilty under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and pronounced him life sentence.

Ilyasi's wife Anju was murdered at her marital home in East Delhi. According to police records on the day of the incident, Anju was rushed to a hospital with multiple stab injuruies. 

Initially, Ilyasi was booked for charges of subjecting his wife to cruelty, dowry death and destroying evidence.

The Delhi Police had arrested Ilyasi on March 28, 2000, after his in-laws lodged an FIR on the basis of an inquest report by the area magistrate.

The court granted bail to Ilyasi in 2000. However, The Delhi High Court in 2014 ordered that Ilyasi be tried for murder.

The magistrate then had asked the police to investigate the case after Anju’s mother recorded her statement before the magistrate holding Ilyasi responsible for her death.
