Delhi High Court stayed the trial court's order on don politician Mukhtar Ansari on Monday, which means that Ansari will have to remain in jail.
The Court pronounced its decision on Election Commission’s plea for cancelling Mukhtar Ansari’s custody parole granted by a trial court for canvassing in Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls 2017.
Ansari had recently joined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to contest from the Mau Assembly seat, was given custody parole till March 4 to enable him to campaign in the election.
Ansari is an accused in the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Krishnanand Rai in November 2005 who is facing trial before the CBI court in Delhi.
