In Delhi to attend a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee, Janta Dal United chief Nitish Kumar on Saturday met Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.
According to reports, the Bihar Chief Minister also met Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi at her residence.
The meeting comes at a time when tension between JDU and RJD is boiling over in Bihar. The corruption charges on RJD chief Lalu Yadav's son Tejashwi Yadav have brought the Grand Alliance in the state to the breaking point.
Nitish's special meet with Congress top brass could also be a sign of appeasement after the presidential nominee support fiasco.
The JDU chief had refused to go with the choice of anti-BJP alliance and had supported NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind on the grounds that he was a good social worker and from Bihar.
This led to friction between JDU and other parties, so much so that senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad alleged that Nitish Kumar has flexible principles.
Azad's remarks did draw flake from Rahul gandhi as he warned party leaders of action if anyone targets Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
