Baba will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Srinagar and brought to Delhi on transit remand

Delhi Police has arrested an alleged terrorist of Jaish-e-Mohammad carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh from Srinagar, officials said Tuesday. He has been identified as Abdul Majeed Baba, a resident of Magrepora district of Sopore and was arrested on Saturday evening from Soura in downtown Srinagar, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said. The development comes after two terrorists were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of the state.

Baba will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Srinagar and brought to Delhi on transit remand, police said.

On Monday, two suspected terrorists were arrested on Monday in Ramban district of Jammu region, a senior police officer said. Shoukat Ahmad of Awantipora and Taufeeq Ahmad of Kulgam were arrested in Gool area around 3.30 am, the officer said. Both are being interrogated by senior police officials.

Earlier, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Hindsitapur area of Shopian district in south Kashmir following specific information about the presence of terrorists there, the official said.

As the forces were conducting the search operations, the terrorists fired upon them, which led to a gun battle in which the two militants were killed, he said.

Weapons and other materials have been seized from the site of the encounter, the official added.
