Surgeons recently performed a highly risky and laborious surgery on a 39-year-old Russian patient and removed a tumor size of a football recently at a Delhi hospital.
The Russian patient, Emil Abdullaev, was suffering from breathlessness and immense discomfort. After several comprehensive medical checkups the doctors discovered the football size tumor growing in his chest cavity.
According to doctors the tumor was exerting tremendous pressure on his right lung.
The surgery was conducted by the team from Fortis Flt Lt Rajan Dhall Hospital in Vasant Kunj. The team of doctors was led by Dr Sabyasachi Bal, director, thoracic Onco-Surgery.
The doctors said the giant tumor which weighed almost 3.2 kgs had occupied a substantial amount of space around the right lung.
Earlier, Abdullaev was supposed to undergo a surgery in Russia but doctors aborted the surgery fearing the procedure might be fatal.
Bal said, "The cause behind such a growth is unknown.We took the chance as the tumor was not infiltrating, making the excision successful."
