A traffic advisory has been issued by the Delhi Traffic Police as several roads in the Delhi will be closed for the public on Friday due to country’s tallest leader and former Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s final journey and last rites, the Delhi Traffic Police said on Friday.
"Delhi police has made elaborate security arrangements for the last rites procession. It will be ensured that the people who come to pay last respect & the commuters face minimum inconvenience & that there is no compromise with security," said Delhi DCP Madhur Verma.

The last rites of the Bharat Ratna awardee will be performed at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal at the national capital at 4 pm on Friday.

Daily commuters have been advised to use Safdarjung Road, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Aurobindo Marg, and Mandir Marg to head between south and north Delhi.

Some of the roads that will be closed from 8 am tomorrow are Krishna Menon Marg, Sunehri Bagh Road, Tughlak Road, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Man Singh Road, Bhagwan Dass Road, Shahjahan Road and Sikandara Road.

DDU Marg, IP Marg, BSZ Marg (from Tilak Bridge to Delhi Gate), JLN Marg (from Rajghat to Delhi Gate) will also be closed, the traffic police said.
Vikas Mark, Shahdara Bridge and Wazirabad Bridge can be used by passengers travelling between west and east Delhi.

Meanwhile, the body of the BJP stalwart has been kept at his official residence at Krishna Menon Mark. People can pay their homage at his residence from 7:30 am to 8:30 am on Friday, BJP chief Amit Shah said.
The body would be taken to the BJP headquarters at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg at around 9:00 am, he added.
The last rites of Vajpayee would be performed at 4 pm, Shah said.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday passed away at the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after prolonged illness.
