With the mercury plummeting in north India, Delhi on Saturday woke up to a foggy morning.

The minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 7.3 degrees Celsius, a degree below the season's average making it the coldest of the season so far while the maximum temperature was recorded at 19.5 degrees Celsius, four degrees below the normal, said a Meteorological (MeT) Department official.

Visibility was also affected at several places by the shallow fog during the morning hours. 11 trains are arriving late, 1 has been rescheduled and 9 cancelled due to decreased visibility and operational reasons.

Western parts of Uttar Pradesh experienced light rains and fog pushing down minimum temperatures in Gorakhpur, Faizabad, and Moradabad divisions.

The weather was dry over eastern Uttar Pradesh. Aligarh and Muzaffarnagar were the coldest places in the state with a low of 7.4 degrees Celsius.

The mercury plummeted to 13 degrees Celsius in Chandigarh during the day making it colder than Shimla and many other places in the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.
