Cash rush | How come some get lakhs when ordinary people can't even withdraw Rs 24,000 a week: SC pulls up Centre

The Supreme Court pulled up Centre on Thursday over the inconvenience suffered by the people due to unavailability of cash at banks and ATMs.

During a hearing, CJI TS Thakur asked Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi as to how some people were getting money in lakhs and that too in new currency despite the cash crunch across the country.

"People are not getting even Rs 24,000 a week then how come some of them got lakhs of new currency," Thakur said.

The government too acknowledged the fact saying that it was due to some bank managers involved in illegal activities.

"Some bank managers are allegedly involved in illegal activities and the government is acting against culprits," Rohatgi said.

Rohatgi said the government is working round the clock to alleviate the inconveniences faced by the public.
