Airlines have asked their passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.

Dense fog hit flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport on Monday. Delays were also reported for both arrivals and departures in Bengaluru and Bhopal due to the poor visibility. Jet Airways, Indigo and Vistara Airlines issued travel advisory for their passengers on Twitter, asking them to check flight status before heading to the airport. “Due to dense fog in Delhi and Bangalore, flight delays are expected for both arrivals and departures with likely consequential impact on flights across network,” domestic airline Vistara wrote on Twitter asking passengers to check updated flight status before booking and leaving for airport.

Another airline Jet Airways also reported delays in its flights in Delhi, Bengaluru and Bhopal due to adverse weather conditions. “Due to adverse weather conditions (fog) at Delhi, Bengaluru and Bhopal, some of our flights have been affected,” Jet Airways tweeted.

On Friday, more than 40 flights were delayed in Delhi and Bengaluru where operations had to be suspended for over an hour due to low visibility caused by dense fog. On Sunday passengers were stranded for hours after 50 flights delayed due to bad weather in Bengaluru.

North India is reeling under bone-chilling cold and dense fog has affected train services as well. At least 13 trains, including Kaifiyat Express, Magadh Express, and Rewa-Anand Vihar Superfast Express, were running late due to poor visibility.

According to Railways Officials, Gaya Anand Vihar Garib Rath Express, Brahmaputra Mail Express, Swatantra Senani Superfast Express and Purushottam Express were running late by over three hours due to foggy weather conditions.

Private forecasting agency Skymet Weather said that due to scattered rainfall in the region, dense to very dense fog will persist over northern plains for the next couple of days. The weather office warned that the visibilty may drop to as low as zero due to the thick fog.
