A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi reconstituted the Congress Working Committee (CWC) list, party MP Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday made light of it.

While the absence of several senior leaders in the first CWC list under president Rahul Gandhi has left many a people agog, Singh has reacted positively and expressed his happiness over the same.

Speaking to the media the Congress leader said, "I’m happy that Rahul Gandhi has formed a new team…It’s unnecessary to discuss who is part of it. The challenge in front of us is very serious. 2019 polls are about which ideology will rule our nation".

Earlier on Tuesday party chief Rahul Gandhi extended the Central Working Committee, the highest decision-making body, to 51 members from the 25-members in the last CWC. The newly constructed CWC will hold its first meeting on July 22. The CWC meeting is expected to be attended by all state unit presidents and Congress Legislative Party leaders from all states.

Apart from Digvijaya Singh, other senior leaders, who were dropped from the new CWC, include, Janardan Dwivedi, Kamal Nath, Sushilkumar Shinde, Mohan Prakash, Karan Singh, BK Hariprasad, and CP Joshi.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be the senior members of the new CWC, which has a fair share of young party leaders. With 2019 Lok Sabha just a few months left, the new CWC will form the advisory team to meet the challenges.

The new CWC list came four months after the Congress's plenary session in March authorised Rahul Gandhi to set up the party's highest decision-making body.

In December 2017, the Gandhi scion was elected unopposed as president of the Indian National Congress and replaced his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
