Diwali 2017: Ayodhya gears up to lit two lakh lamps, set to create new Guinness record

Potter families are participating in this mega event with full enthusiasm

As many as 60 potter families are engaged in making  two lakh lamps in order to participate in the mega Diwali event to take place on October 18 at Ayodhya's Jai Singh area.

The event that is organised by the Uttar Pradesh government (UP) is all set to break Guinness record of lighting lamps which at present stands at 1,50,009.

This comes at a time when there is a nationwide call to avoid Diwali gifts, lamps and idols made in China. The call to make earthen lamps will give boost to the domestic potters of earthen pots.

Potter families are participating in this mega event with full enthusiasm as Chief Minister (CM) of UP Yogi Adityanath will be their chief guest.
As of now approximately one lakh earthen lamps have been made and the remaining are to be made in the coming three days.

Though the problem of irregular electricity still looms large, the potters are confident that they will be able to finish the project in time.
