‘DO NOT’ circulate photos that invoke hatred, CRPF issues advisory on Pulwama attack

New Delhi:

As India grieves over Pulwama martyrs, disturbing images are swarming on social media that may instigate violence. In view of such photos being circulated widely, the CRPF on Sunday issued a stringent warning to people. “ADVISORY: It has been noticed that on social media some miscreants are trying to circulate fake pictures of body parts of our Martyrs to invoke hatred while we stand united. Please DO NOT circulate/share/like such photographs or posts. Report such content at webpro@crpf.gov.in,” read the statement issued by the CRPF on its official Twitter handle.

At least 42 CRPF personnel were killed on Thursday in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir when a Jaish suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 80 kg of explosives into their bus in Pulwama district that also left many critically wounded.  More than 2,500 Central Reserve Police Force personnel, many of them returning from leave to rejoin duty in the Valley, were travelling in the convoy of 78 vehicles when they were ambushed on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Latoomode in Awantipora in south Kashmir.

Day after the strike, CRPF took to Twitter and posted an emotional message that has gone viral. “WE WILL NOT FORGET, WE WILL NOT FORGIVE:We salute our martyrs of Pulwama attack and stand with the families of our martyr brothers. This heinous attack will be avenged,” the tweet read.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police has also been fighting the fake news menace. The cops have been regularly sending out alerts on Twitter regarding any rumour of misinformation. “Some miscreants are floating rumors about attack on Kashmir based drivers/vehicles at Udhampur. This is totally baseless and fake. Don't pay heed to such rumors. Rumors mongers would be dealt strictly under law : SSP Udhampur,” one of the tweets said yesterday.

On February 14, the day of the attack, a fake news message went viral. The WhatsApp message falsely spread the fake news about an attack on Shopian Police Station in south Kashmir. However, SSP Shopian later debunked the news and said that it was just a cordon off and no attack took place.
