In a fresh ruling on women’s entry to the inner sanctorum of Haji Ali dargah, the Supreme Court on Friday stayed the earlier order by Bombay high court which allowed women into the inner sanctum of the dargah.

Asking the dargah committee to do some secular inspection and come out with a progressive stand on women’s entry into Haji Ali.

While giving out the ruling, the apex court said that a similar problem exists in Kerala's Sabarimala temple. “Be it Islam or Hinduism, we need to look progressively at customs,” the SC said.

Earlier, Bombay High Court ruling came following a a public interest litigation urging lifting restriction on women inside the inner sanctum which houses the mazaar or tomb of the saint.
