New Delhi:

Earth Sciences Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday launched two mobile apps — India Quake and Sagar Vani — which will alert people regarding future calamities in land and water. 

The mobile application India Quake will provide information on earthquakes like its timing, epicentre and intensity  while Sagar Vani will give details and alerts users about Tsunami and high waves. 

“Any citizen can download this app and get the real time earthquake location information. The apps will make information dissemination faster,” said minister of earth sciences in a statement.

The National Centre of Seismology (NCS) has developed the application India Quake and ESSO-Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has developed Integrated Information Dissemination System (IDS) or Sagar Vani. 

According to NCS the Indian Quake app will automatically circulate relevant informations including location, time and magnitude after occurrence of earthquakes to its users.

NCS currently operates national seismological from 84 stations across the country. The department currently disseminate earthquake parameters to all government departments and others through SMS, email and fax, which leads to certain delays and restricting the numbers of recipients. 

Informing about the Sagar Vani the ministry said the the system has provisions of multilingual SMS, Voice Call, Audio Advisory, Social Media platforms and Digital Display Boards for circulation of information in case of an emergency to raise an alert. The app will directly disseminate warning from the lab.
