An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale hit parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. So far, there were no reports of any damage to the lives of people and property.
"The tremor occurred at 8.09 a.m. Its coordinates are latitude 36.7 north and longitude 74.5 east. The depth of the earthquake was 206 km," a state disaster management department said.
Although it was a low-intensity quake, the Jammu and Kashmir region falls in the earthquake-prone zones. On October 8, 2005, a massive earthquake had killed more than 80,000 people on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC).
